Available Positions

Business to Business Sales Consultant

Location: NFI Headquarters, Germantown, MD   
Status: Full Time - Non-Exempt
Work Hours:  Monday –Friday 8:30 – 5:00PM
Travel Requirements:  50% within the Washington DC Metro Region and surrounding states
Reports to: Director, Program Support Services  

Summary:
The Business to Business (B2B) Sales Consultant will build National Fatherhood Initiative’s presence and reputation by increasing the number of organizations in the DC Metro and surrounding areas using NFI fatherhood skill-building products and programming. The B2B Sales Consultant will conduct business-to-business consultative sales (by phone and in-person locally,) meet internal sales goals, deliver on NFI Training Institutes, and attend conferences that present sales opportunities for NFI products and services.

Please note: This is not a direct services position; staff in this role do not work directly with fathers. The ideal candidate will have a passion for consulting with organizations locally and across the nation to equip them to equip fathers to be involved, responsible, and committed in their children’s lives.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Establish trusted advisor relationships with prospective fatherhood programming organizations in Montgomery County, MD, the Washington DC Metro area, and eventually surrounding states, to increase the number of local organizations using NFI programs, products, and services
  • Establish deep relationships with organizations running NFI programs so they can be called upon to provide testimonials, participate in NFI initiatives and local fundraising events, or partner on future projects
  • Work with NFI’s development staff to set up local reference sites (organizations using NFI programming); coordinate site visits as needed to reference sites in the DC Metro Area for local donors and funders
  • Meet individual and team sales goals and quotas on an annual basis
  • Support other members of the Program Support team through ongoing joint initiatives to increase sales revenue
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the father absence issue, and communicate how increasing father involvement through the use of NFI skill-building materials improves the overall well-being of children
  • Understand customer goals and service strategies to help them achieve their fatherhood programming objectives
  • Prospect and generate new customers and leads from cold call lists, exhibits, or leads from NFI events and staff
  • Handle inbound inquiries and utilize existing customer relationships to establish new prospects
  • Deliver Training Institutes on NFI core curriculum and exhibit and/or present at conferences to generate sales and sales leads
  • Meet regularly with the Director of Program Support Services to report on progress; attend and participate in Program Support team meetings

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate personal travel and site details for training institutes sold
  • Maintain consistent, up-to-date records of all sales activities in NFI’s Raiser’s Edge database (soon to convert to Sage CRM); use systems to run reports for senior management
  • Present marketing and programmatic ideas/assistance to potential customers
  • Provide input on sales promotion ideas and strategies to marketing management
  • Provide input on developing new products and resources for organizations and fathers

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Education: 4-year College Degree
  • Experience in consultative business-to-business sales (or similar and transferrable experience)
  • Passion for fatherhood and related issues
  • Software Proficiency: Excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Other: Fluency in the English Language

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the fatherhood field
  • Connections (personal and/or professional) in the DC Metro Area
  • Experience using Raiser’s Edge, MAS, and Sage CRM (or other similar customer relationship management system)
  • Other: Strong organizational, written, verbal, and presentation skills, competitive, energetic, and self-starter, ability to overcome objections, enjoy a fast paced environment, patience and ability to quickly adjust

Web Editor

Title:    Web Editor
Location: anywhere in United States (either at NFI HQ in Germantown, MD or telecommute from remote location in U.S.)  
Status: Full Time - Non-Exempt
Work Hours:  Monday –Friday 8:30 – 5:00PM
Travel Requirements: limited
Reports to: Vice President of Development and Communication  

Summary:
The web editor will be responsible for NFI’s web content and online audience engagement strategy. The web editor will direct NFI’s work to build and engage an online community of dads.

The web editor will write, edit, and aggregate content for NFI’s various web properties, including but not limited to fatherhood.org, NFI’s Facebook page, NFI’s twitter feed, and NFI’s blog. The main purpose of the content will be to make NFI’s web properties “destinations” for fathers, where they will be able to access fresh, daily, abundant content on all topics related to being a father and topics that are of general interest to men aged 24-50 (the prime “fathering” age range).

Secondarily, content will be created or collated for organizations doing fatherhood work to drive web traffic, leads for Program Support staff, and interest in NFI products and programs.

Finally, the web editor will implement web best practices, web content strategies, and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices across NFI’s web platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Through a combination of writing, editing, and aggregating, produce 5 mixed-media pieces daily for NFI’s web properties.
  • Implement web best practices, web content strategies, and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices across NFI’s web platforms.
  • Cull NFI’s print materials and turn diverse content into web-ready pieces
  • Create and manage a writing community that will contribute daily content to NFI’s web properties.
  • Scour the web daily for quality content that can be aggregated on NFI’s web properties
  • Actively participate in the online fatherhood, motherhood, and parenting communities, by commenting on blogs, writing guest blog posts, interacting on Twitter and Facebook, and other methods to engage these communities in NFI’s message and content
  • Upload abovementioned daily content to NFI’s web properties.
  • Co-manage NFI’s Twitter and Facebook accounts
  • Generate web traffic through hubs such as Reddit, StumbleUpon, and Digg


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Experience: 2-4 years of experience in online journalism
  • A passionate “fatherhood junky”
  • A "digital native": familiarity with all of the web's top news sites and blogs, and with current national politics and business news
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, creatively demanding work environment that requires meticulous attention to detail
  • A keen sense for how to make news compelling using images, headlines, and other publishing elements
  • Extensive knowledge of social media sites and ideas about how to engage a reader community in the news of the day
  • Familiarity with video platforms and content
  • Experience generating traffic for websites
  • Skills writing headlines and other methods to maximize SEO
  • Experience working with a web-based CMS
  • Experience managing editorial relationships with online properties
