There are thousands of groups in America that are working hard everyday to make our nation a better place. But, I would like to share with you why NFI's work of strengthening responsible fatherhood is the single most important issue we must address in our country today.

As a contributing factor to all of these pressing societal ills, father absence represents the most consequential and damaging social trend of our times.

Right now, there are 24 million children growing up without their dad, and the percentage of children living in father absent homes has more than tripled in the past 40 years. One out of every three children in America lives in a father-absent home.

The solution

Our vision is to achieve a renewal of responsible fatherhood by leading a movement that embraces all fathers, engages all sectors of society, and increases the proportion of children growing up with their two committed, married parents.

By creating a new cycle of father involvement, we will give a lasting legacy to the children of America - a legacy of love, support, and security - that they can pass on to the generations to come.

NFI’s work

NFI is uniquely positioned to effectuate the largest, most sweeping changes in the lives of America’s children through addressing father absence.

Our Educating, Equipping, and Engaging strategy is the most comprehensive strategy to change America and create cycles of father involvement wherever fathers and families are found.

Our PSA campaign in conjunction with the Ad Council has introduced the issue of responsible fatherhood to the nation. Appearances on FOX News, the Oprah Winfrey Show, BET, and other media outlets have further reinforced this effort.

Our innovative programs like Doctor Dad™, 24/7 Dad™, and Long Distance Dads™ are the best fathering curricula available today - giving dads the most thorough and useful information about being the best dad they can be. In fact, NFI is the only group to have released an interactive fathering CD-ROM. Directions for Dad™ has already been distributed to over 40,000 fathers across the country. NFI has also distributed thousands of our Deployed Fathers and Families™ guide for military dads.

Through our Fatherhood Awards Gala, our Golden Dads campaign, our Affiliates Program, and other strategic partnerships, we are also aggressively targeting important sectors of society around this issue.
