7-Year Old Girl Saves Her Diabetic Dad’s Life With 911 Call
February 22, 2012
Proving that teaching children valuable lifesaving lessons early on is necessary, a 7-year old California girl practiced quick thinking in saving her diabetic father’s life after he had a medical emergency while driving. Natalie, her 5-year old sister and their father were all driving back from a miniature golf outing when suddenly the father began driving strangely.
“He started driving fast and we hit a few bumps," Natalie said to news station KTLA. "We started asking him if he was okay and he wasn't answering us.”
Natalie’s parents have instructed her and the family on what to do in case of an emergency. She was able to retrieve the phone from his pocket and dialed 911. Still scared, Natalie spoke with the dispatchers and gave visual landmarks in order to alert the authorities to their location. “It was really scary," Natalie said. "I didn't know what was going to happen."
A police officer intervened after her father finally stopped the car and Natalie honked the horn. Authorities rushed to the scene and by all reports, everyone was fine. “They said I was a hero,” said the modest little girl of her helpful turn in getting help to her father.
