NFL Great Deion Sanders To Host Sports Dad Television Show

January 12, 2011

Flashy NFL Hall Of Fame cornerback Deion “Prime Time” Sanders has long been involved in youth athletics, partnering with other stars to host sports camps and to get children physically active over the years. As a cover man for the Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys and even a short stint in Washington, Sanders has snagged two Super Bowl championships and a host of other honors. Next up for the current NFL Network analyst is a television program geared to help sports-obsessed parents connect better with their kids.

Sanders revealed in an interview with BET that he’s hosting an upcoming new program Sports Dad on the Veria Living cable station. Commenting on parents who both encouraged and criticize their athlete kids on the sideline, Sanders hopes to steer parents away from crushing their children under the weight of expectation. “This really hurts the kids. Sports should be fun,” said Sanders.

Sanders confessed he pushed his children in a similar fashion, saying that he wanted them to “just to be the best and succeed in athletics or whatever they choose to do.”

Sanders, a father of five, has passed on the football torch to his eldest son, Deion Jr., who is a budding football star as a senior at Marcus High in Flower Mound, Texas.

Along with his NFL analyst duties and his upcoming show, Sanders also runs the Texas-based youth foundation Prime Time Association and the Prime Prep Academy charter school. Sports Dad will premiere on January 13.
