‘Game Of Thrones’ Actor Talks About Fatherhood, Snagging Golden Globe Award

January 24, 2012

Actor Peter Dinklage may be one of HBO series Game Of Throne’s standout actors in playing a cunning mastermind, but the Golden Globe-winning actor has taken on an entirely different role as a new father – and being away from baby to grab his latest award has made dad a bit nervous.

Dinklage’s star turn as the silver-tongued Tyrion Lannister yielded the 42-year old actor a  Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, this after winning an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama series earlier as well.

Dinklage and his wife, theatre director Erica Schmidt, are proud parents of a 6-week old baby girl, pausing their parental duties so that the actor could attend the 2012 Golden Globes Awards ceremony in Beverly Hills last week. Dinklage confessed that he and his wife were nervous to be away from their newborn but did admit he was more worried.

“I think maybe me. But she’s the one texting, because I think I’d be sweating. I don’t think my texts would work,” Dinklage told Access Hollywood about leaving his daughter in the hands of  a babysitter. While Dinklage’s current successes have changed his acting fortunes, being a father is just as important.

“[It’s] incredible, life changing,” said Dinklage of becoming a first-time father.

Game Of Thrones returns to HBO for its second season on April 1.
