Gwyneth Patrol Says Father’s Passing Inspired Health Kick

February 6, 2012

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has enjoyed the distinction of being one of Hollywood’s most glamorous actresses. After a big lifestyle inspired by the loss of her father to cancer, it appears she will be known as one of the healthiest as well.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 39-year old mother of two says that the 2002 passing of her father, director Bruce Paltrow, put her on the road to better health. Paltrow’s father passed at age 58 from throat cancer, after years of drinking and smoking. “All I've learned about nutrition and health came from his cancer," Gwyneth Paltrow said. "I'll probably have a long and healthy life because he didn't.”

Paltrow’s closeness with her father is well-noted, after a cookbook she released last spring titled My Father’s Daughter also focused on how Mr. Paltrow influenced his daughter’s taste in food. The book is said to be a look at family, togetherness and cooking – all hallmarks of Paltrow’s life off-screen with husband Chris Martin of the rock band Coldplay.  The couple has two children, Apple, 8, and Moses, 6. Moses was bestowed with his late grandfather’s first name as a middle name.

Paltrow doesn’t seem to romanticize her healthy choices; instead she focuses on the good side of what happened to her father as it relates to her current life. “"I don't go back and say I wish he had done this differently, I wish he hadn't smoked, because the fact is that he did and he died. As much grief and pain and trauma and heartache are caused, there was an equal amount of positivity that came out of his death,” said Paltrow.
