Son Of Joe Paterno Said Penn State Legend Passed Away ‘At Peace’
January 24, 2012
Although news swirled about that Joe Paterno died in shame, the son of the legendary Penn State football coach silenced the rumors and said his father died peacefully and without bitterness towards his former employers over the weekend.
Joe Paterno passed away this past Sunday after a long bout with lug cancer finally overtook the beloved Penn State fixture, but doubts still hung over the heads of many as the scandal involving Jerry Sandusky continues to smear the football program’s legacy. However, Paterno’s son Scott said his father was not in turmoil over the ordeal as many assumed.
The younger Paterno said his father was “was incredibly at peace when he died and furthered his point by saying, “He was simply caught by something he couldn’t beat” – referring to the cancer. Scott Paterno has been defiant in his defense of his father’s name and said that the only regret Joe Paterno had was that he didn’t get to travel much with his wife, Sue.
Scott Paterno, a former congressional candidate for Pennsylvania, said that the last words his father uttered before he passed were, “take care of your mom.”
