Scott Paterno Says Passing Of Famous Father Joe ‘Restored’ His Faith

February 16, 2012

The passing of celebrated football coaching legend Joe Paterno last month still dominates the headlines in Pennsylvania as family, fans and friends have openly mourned the loss. Even in the midst of the Sandusky scandal that led to Paterno’s unceremonious ouster, JoePa was still a beloved figure to many. Yesterday (February 15) afternoon, a memorial service was held for Paterno in Harrisburg where mourners expressed their adoration.

Although hundreds of mourners packed into the Saint Patrick Cathedral for a public mass to offer their condolences, Joe Paterno’s son Scott offered perhaps the most poignant words during the emotional gathering, as reported by local station WGAL.

"I'm ashamed to admit, but man enough to acknowledge I lost my faith for a time over the past three months. When all the storms seemed focused on my parents, two people who lived amazing lives, I gave in to self pity and anger and questioned how it could be so if God is truly just, but then I witnessed things that could only be possible through grace and that restored my faith. I watched my father live every day he had left without malice in his heart or bitterness on his lips," said Scott Paterno in moving fashion.

Reports say the memorial service was held for those who couldn’t attend the State College services and tributes.
