Dr. Phil Critical Of Dad Who Shot Daughter’s Laptop

The now-viral video of North Carolina father Tommy Jordan has become an online hit, with many parents both applauding and panning the gun-toting dad’s choice to shoot is teen daughter’s laptop over slanderous remarks she left about her parents on her Facebook page. Television personality and psychologist Dr. Phil McGraw has weighed in on the furor surrounding video clip, and had some choice words for Jordan.

You never, ever humiliate your child publicly,’’ Dr. Phil told TODAY’s Matt Lauer Friday morning. “You’re supposed to be the adult, the calm in the middle of the storm, where you say, ‘OK, you choose the behavior, you choose the consequences.’ But this consequence was pretty radical.”

Jordan has said on his Facebook page that he doesn’t feel he made a poor parenting decision and has largely ignored his critics. The father has even said the incident has brought his family even closer. Still, Dr. Phil suggested that Jordan’s daughter’s behavior might have been influenced by what happens at home.

“When you step back and look at the entire thing and what kind of parenting it is, the first thing that jumped out to me is: This is a real mouthy kid, wonder where she got that?’’ said Dr. Phil. “This is somebody that’s acting without thinking. Wonder where she got that, because Dad sure didn’t pump the brakes on this before he posted this.”
