Workshop Overview
The National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) offers a comprehensive one-day workshop designed specifically for Head Starts that allow staff to assess the degree to which their Head Start is "father-friendly" toward dads as clients and employees.
Drawing on compelling research studies conducted in Head Starts and Early Head Starts, NFI provides an opportunity to apply the assessment categories identified below to the operations of your Head Start. It also encourages staff to examine their own attitudes about serving the growing needs of fathers and their families.
The assessment categories include:
- Leadership & organizational philosophy
- Policies and procedures
- Physical environment
- Staff orientations and training
- Program/service/product content
- Social marketing strategies
- Community service
This workshop also raises awareness on why engaging dads is critical for the success and survival of Head Start programs, while addressing the barriers that might exist in your Head Start to becoming more father-friendly.
