Work-Family Balance Basics
So overwhelmed by the whole work-family balance concept that you don't even know where to start? Here is a simple guide to successfully balancing work and family needs:
Talk with your family. Ask your family what is most important for them and learn what makes them feel valued. Get everyone on the same page about what it means to make family a priority.
Maybe your wife would like you to come home in time to play with the kids before dinner at least a few nights a week. Your children can also let you know which activities are most important to them.
Talk with your manager. Once you know your family's priorities, have an open conversation with your manager to try to make it a reality. Understand what your manager’s expectations and needs are and clearly communicate yours.
Know your benefits. Many companies offer flex time, paternity leave, and other great benefits/resources. Check in with your HR department and make sure you are taking advantage of your benefits!
