Do Your Kids Need to Fail?

Sometimes, we learn even more from our mistakes than we do our successes.  Here's how to help your kids make the most of their mistakes.

Let Them Fail.  Your children need to connect their actions to consequences.  Don't immediately try to fix social faux pas, get your child out of detention, or finish the science project on your own.

Talk About It.  When a situation goes awry, talk to your child about what happened, why it happened, and what he/she could have done differently.

While it is good for your child to experience the consequences of his mistakes, you don't want to cause undue frustration, so be sure to guide your kids through the process and help them come to a helpful conclusion.

Don't Give Up.  Don't let your kids give up on the first try.  Help them to step back, analyze the situation, and brainstorm different strategies and approaches.
