Would You Get Healthy For Your kids?

We asked Daddy Blogger DC Urban Dad to tell us why he has taken the fit2father pledge and why he's dedicated to staying healthy and keeping his family healthy, too.

Hello, my name is Matt from DC Urban Dad and, well, I'm a runner.

I wasn't always a runner.  I'm not really sure when it all began, but I know that over the last few years the frequency has picked up.  And well, I just can't seem to stop.

Don't worry though - I'm not running from something.  I run for something.

It's not to win races  Or win awards or praise.  I don't run for six pack abs.  Although if through my running I got a six pack I would not complain.

I run to clear to my head.  To have 30 to 40 minutes of me time.  Where it's just me, the road, my music and my thoughts.

I run to keep my heart ticking and my lungs in working order.  I run to stay healthy and active and vibrant.  But most importantly I run for her.....

....I run to set an example.  I run so that my daughter understands the importance of keeping up a healthy lifestyle.  A recent study done by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services shows that our country's childhood obesity rate has tripled over the past 30 years.  Tripled.  That is not a life I want my little one to lead.  So I run.   It's just a small step in a larger strategy to keep my little one fit and around for years to come.  It's my pledge.  Have you taken the pledge lately?
