Holiday Survival Guide

The holidays can often be a time of busyness and frustration. But, they can also be a time to enjoy, relax, and remember. Here are a few suggestions on how to make this year one to remember with a smile.

Brainstorm how you can make this time of year about quality family moments rather than what gifts to buy everyone and how many places you need to visit. You can do this by setting aside some time each weekend to spend with your children. Remember that quality time doesn't have to cost a lot of money -  it just takes a concerted effort to step back from all of the hustle and bustle.

Ideas for your weekend home adventures can be:

  • Decorate: Do this as a family involving everyone in the household.
  • Family game night: Encourage each member to choose one or two games. This ensures that each member is involved and that game time lasts a long time.
  • Invite your neighbor over for dinner or dessert. This teaches your children generosity and hospitality.
  • Movie night: Rent your favorite holiday movies and snuggle up by the fire.
Centering your holidays around being together and enjoying the simple things will help your children to learn the value of family and not possessions. Always keep things simple and in perspective, and remember to enjoy who you are with in each moment.
