Ideas to Celebrate Mother's Day

Recognize the mom in your life with these fun, simple ideas that will get your kids involved and give mom a day to remember.

For Younger Children:
Work with them to make a special art project for mom.  Get out the finger paints and let your kids go wild. Or, let them make hand prints on construction paper. Even if its small, mom will appreciate something homemade.

Let your kids help with breakfast in bed. Little ones can help stir and mix the pancake batter, or make sure the forks and napkins are out and ready to go.

For Grade-School Children:
Have them write a sentence or two about why mom is so special and make a special Top 10 list just for mom.  The items could be humorous or serious, but she is sure to feel special.

Ask them to write down their favorite story about mom. It's even more fun if you video tape it - that way, you can watch them retell the story years later!

Get the chores done! Work with your kids to take care of a few simple chores that you know mom will appreciate having done. It can be as simple as making the bed or putting a few toys away.

For Older Children:

Cook up mom’s favorite foods at home!  Even if you have to call on mom for a bit of cooking advice from time to time, get her to take it easy as you and the older children cook up a storm for her!  The important thing is that you make it for her – it doesn’t have to be elaborate!  Allrecipes.com has some great ideas and recipes to get started.

Treat mom to a special day. If she likes plays, take the whole family to a local community performance. Or, take the whole family to a local festival mom has been wanting to attend.

Help her relax. Offer to give her a foot rub, a shoulder rub, or draw a special bath for her. Your kids can even help give mom a manicure or a pedicure, if she so desires!

Your kids are tech-savvy so put it to work for you!  Have them put together a slideshow of photos that they feel really characterize their mother.  Perhaps throw a few goofy ones in there as well.  Or have them put together a personalized book of mom-memories.  Think of quotable quotes from mom, fun or serious memories, and put it all in a scrapbook.  Leave blank pages for future memories as well!

No matter what you decide to do, be sure to document the day with some photos or video!
