New Year's Resolutions for Work-Family Balance
This year, resolve to successfully balance work and family with these key ideas. It doesn't have to be overwhelming; small resolutions can make a big difference and help you spend more time with your kids.
Get a Partner. Let someone know about your commitment to balance work and family in 2011 - whether it is your wife, a friend, or a co-worker. Better yet, get someone to make the same resolution and keep each other accountable.
Shut the Door. If you have an office door, resolve to shut it more often so you can concentrate on what needs to be done. No door? Look for other ways you can minimize distractions while working.
Establish "No Work" Zones. Give yourself a cut off when you know you will stop working, or schedule events with your family and resolve not to check e-mail during that time.
Organize Your Workspace. You'd be amazed at how much time you can waste searching for important documents and supplies. Get organized and you can give yourself more time to relax and bond with your family.
