Work-Family Balance for the School Year
Plan now to successfully balance work and family this school year with these three strategies:
Focus on One (or a Few) Things. It's not possible to make it to every event, so focus on what's important. Pick one activity for each child, and make it a priority to always be there.
Your kids love routines and they'll look forward to being picked up from practice every Tuesday, or family dinner every Thursday. This is also a great opportunity to find out what is important to your kids - ask them what they want to do with dad.
Talk It Out. Talk with your family now about what you need to be available for, and then have a conversation with your manager. Everyone will appreciate your proactivity (especially your boss).
Leave Room to Fail. You're not going to get it right the first time, or the second or third time. Be flexible, learn from mishaps, and readjust your plan/schedule as needed.
