work-family balance for the school year

Get these simple strategies for keeping the balance and staying involved in your child's education.

Do Lunch.  Stop by your child's school for lunch or take him/her out for a quick bite.  Younger kids love this, and it's a great way to check in with your teen or older kid during the day.

Help with Homework.  Make homework a priority by sitting with your kids and helping with assignments (be sure not to do the work for them).  Want ideas for making homework time productive, read our Homework Helps.

Create an After School Tradition. Greet your kids at the bus or share a snack.  Don't get home until much later?  Make reading or talking about what they learned the tradition that you share.

Coach, Volunteer, or Chaperone.  Getting involved in the classroom or with sports/activities will give you a broader perspective on your child and her school life.  Can't commit to regular volunteering?  Chaperone a dance or field trip, and look for smaller events/chances to help.
