Fatherhood Today - June 2010

Back to school guide

Summer is winding down and your family is gearing up for another school year.  Here are some ideas for a smooth transition into the school year:

Set a Routine.  Make sure your kids are getting up at the same time every day and eating a healthy breakfast.  In the evening, start regular activities, such as a reading time, that will help your child slow down and get to bed.

Take a Tour.  Children often have anxiety about the school year, even if it isn’t their first time.  Take part in orientation or set up a meeting with your child’s teacher.

Stock Your Pantry.  A family shopping trip for healthy and fun foods will ensure that breakfast time is easy, lunches are healthier and you have a plentiful supply of afternoon snacks.

Not only will this ensure better eating habits to help them excel in the classroom, but it will help get you get out the door in time.

Get Excited.  Children will have the same attitude that you have about school.  The more excited and involved you are, the more excited they will be too.
