Sec. Arne Duncan Talks His Most Important Job
Speaking at a Champions of Change event recently, Sec. Duncan told a story that happened to him recently. He attended his 10-year-old daughter's band concert. He recalled that after a great evening with his family, parents told him that they were surprised to see him in attendance.
Duncan goes on to say that it was “unfathomable that I could have something more important to do…this was my child…I was supposed to be there. There was nothing more important I could do than be supportive as a dad.” Exactly, Sec. Duncan, exactly. Duncan rightly continues to raise the national discussion and challenge fathers. He thinks we have lowered our expectations for fathers and he encourages every father to step up. He says, “If we want strong schools and strong communities, we need more dads involved.”
