Two Titles for Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer: CEO and Mom
Almost before the news about Marissa Mayer being named Yahoo’s new CEO, talk of her expecting a child in October became the “real news.” Mayer started her new post yesterday with Yahoo. She probably isn’t as concerned about “how she will manage being a mom and CEO” as all the reports are speculating. But instead, she’s probably more concerned with, “how am I going to turn around a failing internet giant?”
Besides, all parents know it’s not the first child that stops parents from getting things accomplished; it’s the additional children that render parents useless!
Mayer has said she “plans to work during her maternity leave, which will last several weeks.” The Wall Street Journal points out the key to making this new job work for the family and the company: a steady stream of nannies, a great leadership team and a husband ready pitch-in on parental responsibilities.
Mayer says she worked 90-hour weeks at Google, attending 60 meetings weekly. But as one person said of the news, "Having a baby, going away for a few weeks, those aren't problems…figuring out the company's "vision" and regaining its "competitive advantage" are bigger priorities among staffers.”
