GAITHERSBURG, MD – National Fatherhood Initiative has created a Spanish language version of the popular Directions for Dads™ CD-ROM, entitled Guía Para Papás™.

Guía Para Papás™ is an interactive computer program designed to help men become better fathers. The innovative CD-ROM is the first use of an interactive, videogame-style approach to teaching men fathering, relationship, and character development skills.

"Guía Para Papás™ is an effective and fun way to pass on valuable information about being a good father. Men like to play videogames, drive cars, and learn practical skills. This program does all of the above by putting men in a virtual “driver’s seat” that allows them to navigate through the skill areas that they feel are going to be the most helpful in their lives,” said Roland C. Warren, President of NFI.

Guía Para Papás™ puts users at the wheel of a car, equipped with a navigational system. They will “drive” down a highway – the “Fatherhood Freeway” – and side streets to engage in the multiple topics that the program addresses. The program is divided into four parts: “Where are You Now” allows fathers to assess their current parenting skills; “Good Man, Good Father” stresses the importance of good character in being a good father; “Developing Healthy Relationships” illustrates how all of the relationships in men’s lives impact their roles as fathers; and “Raising Healthy, Compassionate, Responsible Children” directly addresses skill building in the areas of fathering and parenting.

A six-member panel of experts in the fathering and risk-education fields reviewed the content of the program, and a group of low- and middle-income fathers of various ethnic groups tested it.
