“Video is the most interesting and engaging way to share an idea with others.”

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know that I often refer to studies conducted by Child Trends, the outstanding research firm based in Bethesda, MD.

Child Trends seeks to “improve the lives and prospects of children and youth through rigorous research.” So, as you might imagine, they do a ton of research on the effects of parenting on the well-being of children and youth. Fortunately for those of us who seek to help dads become the best parents and fathers they can be, a lot of that research has informed our work.

But did you know they offer more than just research?

Child Trends not only conducts research, it also provides a number of services. One of those is Child Trends News Service. This service uses the results of the rigorous research Child Trends and others conduct to create short videos—each one in English and Spanish—that tell news-style stories you can use to improve the awareness, knowledge, and skills of dads and moms. A bonus is that you can also use the videos to build staff’s capacity to provide research-based information to parents.

For a sample video, watch this one on what research shows makes a difference—and doesn’t make a difference—in how parents contribute to children’s academic success. While there are only a handful of videos that are gender specific (i.e. focus on dad or mom), you can certainly use many in the current collection of 110 videos to support your work with dads.
