The aftermath of gun-toting father Tommy Jordan and the now-viral video of him shooting nine bullets into his daughter’s laptop over disrespectful Facebook comments has been ongoing for over a month. Although the family says it has moved on, the Jordan family has faced extreme criticism. Tommy, his daughter Hannah Marie, and his wife Amy were all guests on NBC daytime program TODAY earlier this morning.
Host Matt Lauer wasted no time in asking Tommy Jordan about the fallout that ensued after the video’s release. “It's changed a lot. We had a lot of scrutiny, a lot of people keeping an eye on every little comment we make and everything we do on Facebook and the Internet,” said Mr. Jordan.
Lauer then pressed Hannah Marie on the relationship between she and her dad in the days after. “We got home, talked about it. And we went our separate ways for a while, but we came back together. We were laughing about it afterward,” she said.
Tommy Jordan did acknowledge that he may have taken things too far, although he continues to stand by what he did. For Mr. Jordan, he resorted to the shooting of the laptop after several attempts to get his daughter’s Facebook usage in line. “In hindsight, considering all the CPS and DSS involvement, maybe [talking privately with Hannah] would have been the right thing to do. However, I can’t change that. I did what I did, and I stand behind what I did.”
Tommy’s wife, Amy, defended her husband, after online comments characterized the Jordans as a family of uneducated knuckleheads. “People may look at the video that don't know him or us and think we're just completely uneducated country people. That’s not the case. He’s very intelligent, very thoughtful. He rarely does anything without thinking it through or even consulting me on a lot of occasions. This wasn't any different.”
For anyone wondering, Hannah Marie is still grounded and without a laptop. But the silvering lining is that her father saved her private information before destroying her previous computer.
