Have you heard about NBC's Parent Toolkit? We're big fans, and want to tell you all about it so that you can share it with the moms and dads you serve!
Healthy, successful children excel in many areas – in the classroom, on the court, and in their relationships with peers and adults. NBC's Parent Toolkit is a great resource that helps parents navigate children's development through every stage of life, both in and out of the classroom. It’s produced by NBC News Education Nation and supported by Pearson, and includes information about almost every aspect of your child’s development (after all, they're all connected!).
Important to note is that NBC worked with a number of experts to produce all the advice, guides, and benchmarks you will see on the site. The site can be viewed in English or Spanish, making it widely accessible to bilingual parents.
Recently, NBC's Parent Toolkit launched a new Life After High School section. This section helps parents and students navigate college and career options. It also includes conversation starters on important but often difficult discussions including underage drinking and consent.
There are also new, original videos for Life After High School that provide engaging tips on key interview skills and even healthy recipes graduates can make quickly and easily. You can also find topics on financial literacy, health and wellness, and social & emotional development for young adults.
The Parent Toolkit website is broken down into easy-to-navigate sections by Grade Level:
You can also navigate the site by Topic:
The Parent Toolkit creators also designed an informational flier that you can download and print to share with the dads and moms you serve. It's great for handing out at events, back-to-school nights, or anytime you’re meeting with parents. The flier is also available in English and Spanish.
Download the Toolkit Information Flier Here.
There's also a Parent Toolkit App which is designed to help you navigate your child’s growth and development from Pre-K through 12th grade in the classroom and beyond. For each grade, the app offers benchmarks to see what your child will be learning in school, and recommendations for diet, sleep and physical activity. There are also grade-by-grade tips that parents can work into their everyday schedule to support what their child is learning and to promote a healthy lifestyle. Simply text TOOLKIT to 33733 to get the app on your mobile device.
Thank you for your work with fathers and families—we hope you and the parents you serve find these Toolkit resources helpful and informative.
