Prompt: "An abstract image that conveys the idea of workers in an organization improving their job performance by using artificial intelligence."

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is becoming a game-changer for organizations. And at National Fatherhood Initiative® (NFI), it’s making us a better fatherhood partner.

Artificial intelligence (AI) isn’t new. It’s been around for years. Its applications are boundless, from self-driving cars to songwriting. What makes GenAI different is its ability to take inputs and “generate” new content, such as text, audio, and images, learn from that input, and improve what it generates over time.

You’ve undoubtedly heard about ChatGPT, one of the most popular GenAI tools. While ChatGPT has grabbed the bulk of the headlines on GenAI, there’s been an explosion of other GenAI tools, some trying to knock ChatGPT off its pedestal. But most of these tools integrate ChatGPT, or one of its rivals, as its foundation. These tools focus on specific applications of GenAI, such as turning text in a document into an audio or video file, or webpage.

GenAI tools are in their infancy. But they’re infants with a rapid growth cycle. They’re quickly becoming toddlers—more sophisticated and helpful by the day. Before you know it, they’ll start school.

As the nation’s leader in building the capacity of human service organizations to be father inclusive, NFI isn’t waiting and watching on the sidelines. We’ve embraced the integration of GenAI because it will help us be even more effective in supporting the father-inclusive efforts of our partners.

How are we doing this?

Our staff has been experimenting formally with GenAI tools to improve our operations. We’ve identified tools for use across the organization and given staff the flexibility to identify other tools that work best in their roles. Here are just a few examples:

  • We’re using ChatGPT to translate some content into Spanish, generate ideas for resources, and analyze reports.
  • We’re using GrammarlyGo to review spelling, grammar, punctuation, and clarity in our resource content, social media content, documents, and emails. It helps us customize our style and tone, and create context-specific language.
  • We’re using Tactiq for real-time transcriptions of internal and external meetings that helps us capture what transpires with greater accuracy and detail. It’s saved us time finalizing the minutes of our board meetings!
  • We’re using Adobe Firefly to create logos, graphics, and images for our resources.

The results?

GenAI has helped our staff augment their work and make them more effective in their roles. We’re saving time and money by completing routine and not-to-routine tasks faster and avoiding outsourcing parts or all of some work.

What’s next?

We’ll continue using GenAI to augment how we run things at NFI and start identifying ways it can improve our fatherhood programs and other resources. That’s right. Look for GenAI-produced improvements in our resources! (More to come.)

And we’re just getting started. We hope to share more about our use of GenAI to help you use it in your father-inclusive efforts.
