Building Systems that Support Marriage
in Fatherhood Programs™

Workshop Overview

Nothing connects fathers to their children like marriage. And research shows that children who grow up in homes with parents who are happily married have better outcomes than children who grow up in any other situation. Even children with parents in a "low-conflict" marriage do better, on average, than their peers raised by single or cohabitating parents.

Marriage also improves the lives of men and women. Compared to single men and women, married people live longer, are generally happier, have higher quality relationships with family and friends, and are more financially secure. Clearly, marriage benefits, dads, moms, and kids.

The National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) offers a comprehensive one-day workshop on how to build a system of support for marriage in fatherhood programs. This is not a workshop on marriage for marriage sake. It shows the value of helping dads who want to marry or who are married to create happy, healthy, and mature marriages that benefit the entire family. You will learn the strategies and acquire the tools needed to help fathers become the best husbands, dads, and men they can be. You will also learn about:
  • The importance of marriage to the Fatherhood Movement;
  • The benefits of marriage for fathers, mothers, children, society, and your own organization;
  • Tools and other resources that help prepare couples for marriage and that strengthen marriage; and
  • Ways to reduce barriers in organizations to supporting marriage.
